We were out and about for you in Styria. On a trip to the Gesäuse, we sought adventure on the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail and topped up our energy reserves there. Our natural surroundings not only offer relaxation, but also unforgettable experiences right on our doorstep.
This time we went on a trip to the Gesäuse, in beautiful Styria. The small, approximately 4 km circular trail around the Pürgschachen Moor is a wonderful excursion destination. Not only a great experience for photographers, but also really worth seeing for nature lovers.
Approach to the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail
By car
As so often, we take the motorway, the A1 to the Voralpenkreuz junction. On exit 195-Sattledt in A9 Direction Slovenia/Graz/Church village merge onto the motorway. Now continue on the A9 for about 75 kilometres. Until the exit towards Ardning/Admont and take the exit. Links turn onto Enns cycle path/B146 (Signs according to Ardning/Admont/Gesäuse) and follow the road for about 2.5 kilometres. There is a small gravelled area here where you can park.
By public transport
Of course it is also possible to get there by public transport, but in my opinion it takes a bit longer. First you go to Linz main station. Here you change to a REX, which takes you to the railway station in Ardning. 14 intermediate stops and just over 1.5 hours later you have to get off. Once you arrive in Ardning, you still have a 2 kilometre walk ahead of you until you reach your destination.
Directions and key data for the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail
There's not much to say here. Beautifully designed paths, from a forest path over hill and dale to a gravel section. A wooden walkway, viewing platforms and nature as far as the eye can see can be found on this tour. What you won't find are metres in altitude. I really can't say any more about it, it's just a really nice excursion into the Gesäuse.

The special thing about our trip to the Gesäuse
The special thing about the trip to the Gesäuse was that it was a photo hike. A gift from Elyas. A small group of photography enthusiasts meet here and practise their hobby together with the help of a „teacher“. Getting a new perspective on things and really taking time for it. It took us just under 4.5 hours to complete the short Pürgschachen Moor circular route. For us, it was all about capturing this beautiful piece of nature as best we could. At the beginning, we had absolutely no idea what to expect. But I can tell you this much, our expectations were exceeded and we really learnt a lot.
My conclusion on the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail
Let's start with the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail. It's a very short and leisurely tour, but that's exactly what I love about it. It's the perfect place to experience a new and wonderful adventure. I was completely fascinated by the nature there. Somehow so different from my home. The shrubs and different plants, with the breathtaking mountains in the background. For me, it was just dreamlike. You just feel at home here, enjoy your time and get a break from the stress of everyday life. The paths are beautifully designed and perfect for an excursion with children and are also great for a pushchair.
Now let's move on to the photographic aspect. To be honest, my first thought was „What great photos can I take here“. I can tell you that I was completely wrong. There is a lot to photograph here, you just have to take your time and look carefully. As it was a photo walk with a „teacher“, we naturally had some help. I have to say briefly that this was not meant to be an advert and we paid for this trip ourselves. Nevertheless, I would like to Rupert Kogler, who was at our side during the photo hike. He actively supported us, gave us a „new“ perspective on many things and made this photo hike a fantastic experience. In conclusion, I can only say that the Pürgschachen Moor circular trail in the Gesäuse is definitely worth a trip. This circular trail is therefore an excellent tip for your next adventure.
