Hike to the Eisenaueralm via the Burggrabenklamm gorge
Places in the Salzkammergut that you must know and what should not be missing? - That's right, the Eisenaueralm. In the warmer months, the hike is simply fantastic and it's not on my to-do list every year for nothing. You start with a beautiful forest path that leads you to the start. You make your way up bit by bit over high rocks and steps. The first kilometre is the most strenuous for me, although it's not even that steep, but personally I just prefer normal forest paths. I'm always happy when this first part is done. After that, there is a lovely narrow path along the gorge.
Those with a fear of heights should perhaps think twice about this route to the Eisenaueralm. Although there are mostly wire ropes to hold on to, you should be sure-footed. The trail continues over a small bridge, which offers you a wonderful view of the gorge and a waterfall visible in the distance. Be sure to stop here briefly and enjoy. A small forest path follows, which takes you the last stretch to the forest road, from where you then follow the alpine pasture to the huts. From here it gets cosy and believe me, you will be fascinated by the view up there. So enjoy this part of the hike to the Eisenaueralm and take your time.
Hike up the Ameisstein and around the Almsee lake
No matter what time of year, whether in the cold months, when the whole panorama is transformed into a winter wonderland, or in summer with the perfect opportunity to cool off. For a family outing on a Sunday, a varied walk with the dog or simply for a tour with friends. A nice long loop, enough metres in altitude with a view of the lake afterwards and the way back along the shore to relax and enjoy. Everything I personally need for a perfect tour. So pack a coffee and a snack or don't forget the necessary change to stop for a bite to eat and it will be an unforgettable excursion.
Hike up the Eibenberg - view of the Offensee and Traunsee lakes in the Salzkammergut region
The great hike up the Eibenberg is perfect for autumn - starting from the Offensee side and with a fantastic view of the Salzkammergut, the mountains and the surrounding lakes. Our hike up the Eibenberg was a real adventure. It took us a total of six hours to reach the summit and return - including a break. The Offensee is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to refresh themselves before heading home.
Grünberg & Laudachsee hiking trail Salzkammergut - Gmunden
Great Grünberg hike from Gasthaus Silberfuchs / Franzl im Holz to Laudachsee and then to Grünbergalm and back again. The hike to and on the Grünberg is definitely worth a visit! The inconspicuous mountain in Gmunden and the beautiful Laudachsee is a real insider tip when it comes to short hikes, half-day excursions, day trips and even multi-day excursions are possible thanks to the overnight accommodation options.
Depending on your mood, you can extend or shorten the route and make the most of your day. The small mountain in Gmunden in the Salzkammergut is the perfect opportunity for adventurous and hiking enthusiasts and is therefore always worth a visit. There are so many ways to experience the Grünberg that you will never get bored. Once at the top, you can enjoy a fantastic View of the Traunsee enjoy.
Hike to the front and rear Signalkogel - circular route across the Langbath lakes

The hike to the front and rear Signalkogel - circular route via the Langbath lakes. A great tour with beautiful views and a circular hike on top. The hike to the front and rear Signalkogel actually offers you everything you need for a perfect day. Strenuous sections for the body - leisurely sections to clear your head - fantastic views to enjoy. Suitable for a lovely Sunday outing with the children and also for dogs. You can do this tour all year round on forest paths and forest roads.
Hike up the Hongar
For me, the Hongar is one of the mountains that I tackle most often during the year and is therefore definitely one of the places in the Salzkammergut that you need to know. On the one hand for hiking, on the other hand it is a great training mountain for the cycling season. You can climb it on foot all year round, whether in hot temperatures or in the winter months when there is snow. It's a slightly shorter hike, not far from me. Perfect for a little sporting activity, even if your diary is a little busier.
Hike to the Hochsteinalm - circular route from Almgasthof Windlegern
No plans for the weekend yet? A family outing, a new adventure with the dog or just fancy a solo hike away from the stress and noise of everyday life - then the hike to the Hochsteinalm is just the thing for you. As a child, it was always a highlight for me, of course I wasn't a huge fan of hiking back then, but once I got to the top it was a real paradise. There were so many animals to marvel at, a little something in the Almgasthof Hochsteinalm and there was food for the animals on the way back, which I really enjoyed. Today I love the path via Windlegern to clear my head and give my dog a physical and mental workout. It's a slightly longer tour to get to the Hochsteinalm, but I experience the same feelings of happiness as I did as a child.
Hike up the Großer Sonnstein - a fantastic view of Lake Traunsee
A must for every year. A mountain tour with highs and lows. It is a really great and varied trail. Through the beautiful village of Ebensee and a great forest path that takes you over hill and dale. Really steep passages, steps - which push your legs to the limit and a great rocky path just before the summit cross. But once you reach the top, all the effort is forgotten. This view of Lake Traunsee is so incredibly beautiful. It's easy to forget the time while enjoying a coffee. But you should also take your time here and really enjoy the whole thing. So if you fancy a shorter hike, but one that still packs a punch, I highly recommend this route.
Kaltenbach wilderness - Miesweg circular hiking trail
Whether you want to combine the two routes or complete them individually, it's definitely worth seeing. The forest paths and the great feeling along the gorge on the Kaltenbachwildnis trail or the wooden bridges along the Traunsee lake on the Miesweg trail. Both are so indescribably beautiful. As there are not really many metres in altitude to climb and the tour is rather leisurely, you can really enjoy it.
I have rarely seen such beautiful, varied trails when you combine these hikes. As I also have a dog myself and this excursion is perfect for spending the day with your pet, I think the Kaltenbachwildnis - Miesweg circular hiking trail is even better than it already is. What I also find great about this tour is that you can decide spontaneously whether to do just one of the two trails or combine them. The only negative thing I have to mention is the parking facilities. It's often really difficult to find a place to park your car here. Otherwise, I can only recommend the hike, so now you know your next destination - what are you waiting for?
Hiking around the Gosau lakes - a family excursion in a class of its own
As you can easily see, this is simply a highlight of the Salzkammergut. There are many ways to enjoy this special place and let it work its magic on you.
Starting from the car park, we made our way clockwise along the front of Lake Gosau. At the end of the lake, you have the option of turning right and heading back to the car park or going straight on to the rear Lake Gosau. If, like us, you decide to go straight ahead, you can expect about 350 metres in altitude and then a wonderful lake in a gigantic landscape setting. At the end of the lake you will also find a refreshment stop with a drinking fountain.
Along the way, there are many great photo opportunities or simply moments to savour. You will also find the so-called Gosaulacke between the front and rear lakes, which is definitely worth a short detour. The way back from the rear to the front Lake Gosau is the same. Once you arrive at the front lake, you can now continue the circular hiking trail and walk clockwise back to the start.
Hike from the Gahberg to the Hongar
I think it's a great day out. Whether with the family, as it's not too strenuous even for children, a varied walk with the dog or just for a nice solo trip. The Almgasthof Schwarz is a great place to stop for refreshments, which provides drinks and usually also good pastries on a self-service basis, even on rest days. You still have to climb a little over 400 metres in altitude, but apart from a somewhat steeper but short section, you don't really feel the difference over the distance.
In summer, you can make yourself comfortable afterwards and enjoy the starry sky on the Gahberg or take a refreshing dip in Lake Attersee before heading home. I can only recommend this wonderful hike and the best thing about it is that you can tackle it at any time of year.
