Summit cross of the Kleiner Schönberg: Hike up the Kleiner Schönberg with a view of Lake Traunsee

Walk up the Kleiner Schönberg with a view of Lake Traunsee

In July, Shaggy and I headed back up to the Kleiner Schönberg right next to the Traunstein with a view of Lake Traunsee. 🏞️ The route is ideal for anyone wanting to combine a brisk hike with fantastic views.

The Kleiner Schönberg is an absolute great hike for in-between. Experienced hikers can even manage this in under 3 hours and can therefore park at the free car park (if there's still one free. 😂) at the Traunstein turning area. You can also ideally combine the Kleiner Schönberg with the Miesweg, which I skipped this time, however.

You absolutely have to watch my Reel about it on Instagram:

The hike up the Kleiner Schönberg

I started at the Traunstein turning area. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a free parking space any more. 🥲 Afterwards, I hiked straight along the forest track through the two tunnels towards Kleiner Schönberg.

For the ascent, Shaggy and I chose the forest path and then strolled back down via the logging road. Both options are suitable for children and dogs, provided they are already experienced, practiced and have good stamina. 🐶

Quick tip: The climb is really tough. It’s a proper workout and I worked up a fair sweat. There is an emergency exit sign along the way, but appearances are deceptive. That sign didn't actually mark the emergency exit, but rather pointed towards the summit, where it just got steeper and more exhausting. 😂
