Rinnerberger Waterfall – perfect family day out and ideal for children

This time we had a little family outing planned. We extended the tour, but anyone who just wants to go to the waterfall can of course do that too.

The Rinnerberger Waterfall and the entire stream with all its pools invite you to splash about in the refreshing water. 💦

The path to the waterfall is about 1 km from the car park. We parked down by the inn (see the starting point of the Komoot tour) and from there you can reach the waterfall with a child in a leisurely hour. You can then either turn back or extend the tour as you wish. The waterfall is not overrun, but parking spaces are nonetheless limited.

The walk to the Rinnerberger Wasserfall

Shaggy and I started at the car park by the inn and then went straight to the Rinnerberger waterfall. On the way there, you pass an ice hole. If you stand inside it, a breeze of refreshing and ice-cold air comes out. 🫠

Along the stream and the pools, it is then an easy walk with just a few metres of elevation gain to the Rinnerberger waterfall. Hiking boots, ankle-high recommended, are also a must here as you have to walk over rock in places.

Once you have reached the waterfall, you can extend the tour a little bit, which is what we did. You can find our tour below. But be careful: this led us through a huge pasture area, where luckily there were no animals this time. ⚠️

Though the tour was a bit underwhelming from the halfway point onwards since it led over asphalt and forestry tracks, it was all right as a quick workout. 😄

If you just walk to the waterfall and back, you will be back at the starting point in 1.5 hours. That is a total of approx. 2 km including the return journey. If you would like to do our hike (attention: includes pasture land), you can find the key details here:

Directions and parking facilities

We drove via the Vorchdorf motorway exit through Pettenbach towards Kirchdorf. Of course, you can also choose the exit in Inzersdorf and then drive via Micheldorf to the car park at Pernzellerstraße 1 in Grünburg. There are free parking spaces there.

While the waterfall isn't overrun, parking is still limited. So it's worth getting there early. 😊

Unfortunately, no public transport runs out here.

Places to stop for refreshments during the hike to the Rinnerberger waterfall

There are no stops with vegan options on this hike. ⛰️ It's best to simply bring your own good snack and a lovely coffee in a thermos flask, then you're definitely on the safe side. 🥪☕️

The hike is definitely a bit of a hidden gem for families who want to do a short, relaxed walk to the pools of the Rinnerberger waterfall. 🤩
