Grünberg & Laudachsee hiking trail Salzkammergut - Gmunden

Great Grünberg hike from Silberfuchs / Franzl im Holz inn to Laudachsee and then to Grünbergalm and back. 🥾

The hike to and around Grünberg is definitely worth a visit! The unassuming mountain in Gmunden and the beautiful Laudachsee lake are a real insider tip for short hikes, half-day trips, day trips, and even multi-day excursions are possible thanks to the overnight accommodation options. Depending on your mood and desire, you can extend or shorten the route and thus make the most of your day. 🏞

Today I'm showing you my standard route – great for a hike with a girlfriend and dog, or also perfectly suited for a little „mountain running session“ 🏃‍♀️.

Getting there / Arrival and starting point of the Günberg hike

Arrival at the starting point at the gasthaus "Silberfuchs" or "Franzl im Holz" is by car 🚗. There are very few free parking spaces available; for most parking spaces, a ticket must be purchased from the ticket machine and clearly displayed in the area of the windscreen. Depending on the fee paid, you can enjoy your hike for longer or shorter periods. Paid parking spaces are sufficiently available.

How fit do I need to be for the hike to Grünberg or to Laudachsee?

A certain level of basic fitness is assumed. After all, it's a hike of approximately 13km, including around 400 metres of elevation gain. We've attached the exact route via Komoot below. For less fit hikers, there's the option to use the cable car and take a shorter hike up the mountain. 🚠

There are also plenty of paths that are well-suited for families with children, dogs, and prams.

⚠️ ATTENTION: We expressly point out that we accept no liability for accidents or possibly closed trails. Before hiking, check the availability of the trail and reflect on your own fitness.

Is swimming at Laudachsee possible?

Yes – be sure to bring your swimwear during the summer months and take a little dip in the Laudachsee. This beautiful, crystal-clear mountain lake invites its guests to swim in a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect panoramic views included! 👙🩳

Seasons & Timing – When can you hike on the Grünberg

The ascent of the Grünberg is possible all year round. The cable car and refreshment stops are partly closed in winter – please observe the opening and operating times. You will find these on the website of gruenberg.info .

In winter, I strongly recommend taking crampons with you, as the paths can be extremely icy in places. ❄️

Catering and snacks on the Grünberg – mountain hut and snack stations

Besides countless seating areas along the path for your own snack, there are refreshment stops at the start, at the Laudachsee & on the Grünberg. However, describing these in more detail would go beyond the scope of this post, which is why I'm directing you to the website of gruenberg.info references, because there you will find all inns, restaurants, huts, hotels and snack bars. 🍽

Further activities, attractions and opportunities at Grünberg

The versatile and varied mountain offers a wide range of hiking opportunities, cycling paths and great attractions such as the Treetop walk, adventure playground & low ropes course and the Grünberg summer toboggan run.

My conclusion on Grünberg and Laudachsee

The small mountain in Gmunden in the Salzkammergut region is the perfect option for adventurous and hiking-enthusiast people, and is therefore always worth a visit. There are so many ways to experience the Grünberg that one can never get bored. Once at the top, you can enjoy a fantastic View of the Traunsee enjoy.
