It was time for me to head up the Brunnkogel once again, and this time I also chose my favourite route – namely the 5-peak tour.
The 5-peak tour includes the Hochleckenkogel, the Mathias Kogl, the Brunnkogel, the Jagerköpfl and, finally, the Jausenstein. You can actually go up the Jausenstein, but I still wouldn't really recommend it – I stayed down. 🙂 Just before the „main summit“ on the Brunnkogel, a really lovely, short ridge walk awaits you (see featured image)!
To be perfectly equipped, will you find all my equipment and all my recommendations here. I'm naturally updating the list all the time. 😀🙌
Caution: The path requires utmost concentration both on the ascent and descent. Although it is not exposed, there is still a risk of falling, mainly because you are walking on gravel and scree for what feels like eternity. ⚠️

You absolutely have to watch my Reel about it on Instagram:
The hike up the Brunnkogel and the other peaks
Starting from the Taferlklaussee, the first section goes through the forest. To be honest, I really underestimate this every single time, because the bit through the forest isn't just a tiny bit, but actually involves nearly 350 vertical metres. 😂 After that, it heads upwards along the slope through the scree, where after another roughly 350 vertical metres you reach the junction for the Brunnkogel or Hochleckenhaus. After that, it is about another 45 minutes via the Hochleckenkogel to the Brunnkogel.

Starting early is definitely worth it here, otherwise you're exposed to the blazing sun and trust me – you don't want that with this climb. The climb is not for beginners and definitely requires a lot of stamina.
At the top, what is probably the most beautiful and also highest (14 m) summit cross in the Salzkammergut awaits you. If you follow my Komoot route (at the end of the post), you will pass all 5 summits. The Jagerköpfl is NOT marked and is only suitable for experienced hikers. Here, a steep section over rocks and scree goes uphill, which also requires a lot of concentration.

Directions and parking facilities for the hike
Access is either from the Attersee side or the Altmünster side. The car park is located right in between, and my tour also starts here. Right at the bottom you will find my Komoot tour – this marks the car park as the starting point. You can also start navigation with Google Maps or Apple Maps directly from Komoot by clicking on „Directions“. The parking spaces are currently free of charge.
Check out public transport right here:
Places to stop for refreshments during the hike
Unfortunately, I couldn't find out whether there are any plant-based places to stop for food and drink. It's best to bring enough drinks, a packed lunch and coffee, and then absolutely nothing will stand in the way of a successful hike. ☕️🥣

My summary of the hike up the Brunnkogel
This hike is simply one of my absolute favourites and it wasn't the first time and it won't be the last. 🙂 I'll definitely be coming back here.
