The circular hiking trail around the Laudachsee - exercise, mountains, lake and a great place to stop for a bite to eat. You're sure to get your money's worth on this excursion.
Like every weekend, I often ask myself what I'm going to do with my life 😅 What always helps me when I'm stuck is a nice hike. A bit of exercise, winding down, relaxing and simply enjoying the peace and quiet with my dog. A great hike that I and my little four-legged friend particularly enjoy is the circular hiking trail around Lake Laudachsee😊

Alongside the Hongar and Grünberg, the Laudachsee is one of my favourite hiking destinations. The circular hiking trail around the Laudachsee is not far from me, a great tour on forest roads and forest paths and you don't have to plan a whole day for it, but you still have a little sporting activity and a fantastic excursion.
Directions & parking facilities
The journey to the starting point at Gasthaus Silberfuchs or Franzl im Holz is by car. There are very few free parking spaces available; at most car parks, a ticket must be purchased from the ticket machine and placed in the windscreen area where it is clearly visible. Depending on the fee paid, you can enjoy your hike for longer or shorter. There are plenty of pay and display car parks available. Don't worry, the parking fee is not high, even for longer stays - but a little tip: it's always best to take some change with you.
Start and access - circular hiking trail around the Laudachsee - Details
As already mentioned, the starting point is directly at the Franzl im Holz car park and goes past the Silberfuchs inn along the forest road. The most strenuous and steepest part follows after a few metres and is about 700m long. This first section is the same route to get to the Grünberg. At the first bend, turn left and follow a beautiful forest path towards Laudachsee. It is around 4 kilometres and 1 - 1.5 hours' walk to the lake. Once there, you get a great view of the Katzenstein, the Traunstein and of course the beautiful Laudachsee. Perfect for grabbing a seat, relaxing and enjoying this wonderful view.
Have you brought a little more time with you?
Then I would advise you to contact the Ramsaualm to stop by for a drink or a small treat. 300 seats, a great ambience with a fantastic panorama on the doorstep and not forgetting the culinary temptations made from regional products. A legendary experience in all seasons, you can find the current opening times here HERE - These are updated every 24 hours.
You now have the option of walking around the lake - it takes about 30 minutes, or you can head straight back. As I had my dog with me and she loves such small, beautiful forest paths, I naturally opted for the path around the lake. The idyllic circular route leads across meadows, paths and small bridges along the shore of Lake Laudachsee and is perfect for a relaxing walk.
The way back is via a forest road and/or down through the middle of the forest on a narrow path, where you then arrive below the car park and have to walk another 5-10 minutes along the road to the car. Regardless of whether it is the outward, circular or return route, the entire circular hiking trail around the Laudachsee is very well signposted and easy to follow.

Season and time of year on the circular hiking trail around Lake Laudachsee
You can tackle this tour all year round.
In winter:
With snow and sunshine, the path to the lake turns into a truly kitschy winter wonderland. If you're lucky, you might even be able to make your way back on a sledge. It's best to check the weather service you trust before setting off or take a look at the webcam on the Grünberg and pack your toboggan. The Laudachsee also has something else in store for you in winter - from November, the lake is usually covered with a solid sheet of ice and is perfect for ice skating.
In summer:
In hot, dry temperatures, there's nothing better than a little cooling off. Why don't you pack your swimming trunks or bikini, because with water temperatures of up to 20 degrees, you can actually go swimming here in summer. But I'll be honest with you, I've never been swimming in the Laudachsee myself and have only rarely seen a few hikers doing it. As far as I know, however, it is permitted.
⚠️ATTENTION: Walking on the ice and swimming in the lake is at your own risk.
My conclusion to this trip
The Laudachsee circular hiking trail is a great tour all year round. Starting with the great trail, which is signposted at all times, to the wonderful refreshment stops with their delicious food and refreshing drinks, to the fabulous views of the mountains and the lake. For me, it's clear that I'll be going there more than once every year. A sporting activity for the body, enjoying the peace and quiet of nature for the soul - what more could you want? Especially for me as a dog owner, it's a great way to let my dog and I work off some energy and it's also a perfect destination for families to treat their loved ones to a great day out.
