Schober & Frauenkopf: Sunset hike with fantastic views

What's the best thing about summer hikes? That it's too hot during the day, so you do more sunrise or sunset tours instead. 🤩 This time I went up the Schober and Frauenkopf.

The last few weeks, it's been far too hot during the day to go for a hike. That's also why Shaggy is allowed to stay at home in this weather and cool off in the water while I'm stomping around the mountains. This after-work tour up the Schober and the Frauenkopf came about very spontaneously, and I was rewarded with a fantastic view!

The hike to the Schober and Frauenkopf

My first goal was the Schober. Starting from the free car park (see the Komoot tour start point below), I headed towards the Wartenfels ruin and then took a challenging hiking trail towards the Schober. The final section requires very good surefootedness and a head for heights, as this section is very exposed and also secured with ropes. I would not recommend this hike with a dog (although some still do it with dogs). Personally, I would choose the direct route to the Frauenkopf and skip the Schober with a four-legged friend.

From the Schober, you then pass the Schober-Schutzhütte hut and head towards the Frauenkopf. From there, a ridge leads to the summit cross. On the way to the Frauenkopf, you'll come across an unnamed (?) intermediate summit. At the summit itself (especially on the Schober), you have a truly fantastic panoramic view of Irrsee, Mondsee, Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee, Wallersee, Mattsee, and Attersee.

There are no catering facilities with vegetarian options on this hike. If you'd like to grab a quick drink in between, you can do so at the Gradanalm on public holidays and at weekends. ⛰️ It's best to simply bring your own tasty snacks and a good coffee in a thermos flask, then you'll definitely be on the safe side. 🥪☕️

My conclusion on the sunset hike

Even though the Schober and Frauenkopf are very popular and sometimes overcrowded destinations, it's very quiet at sunset. I can absolutely recommend the hike, as it invites you to enjoy and marvel at the view.

I'll definitely be back. 🙌🏼
