A fantastic hike up the Vorderer Signalkogel, combined with a tour around the Langbathsee lakes - ideal for anyone who wants to spice up their Langbathsee tour with a summit experience. A real insider tip in the Salzkammergut

At the end of November, Shaggy and I wanted to make the most of the glorious weather and set off again for the Langbath lakes. As we already know the classic circuit of the lakes almost by heart, we wanted to try something new this time and included the Signalkogel in the tour. This turned out to be a real insider tip in the Salzkammergut.

First we went up the front Signalkogel, then over the rear Signalkogel to the Langbathsee - and finally back around both lakes. A brilliant combination of summit adventure and lake enjoyment!

Directions and parking options for the hike to the Signalkogel

We travelled here by car and parked directly at the Langbathseen car park. ⚠️ Please note: there has recently been a parking ticket machine there. Parking is now camera-monitored and subject to a charge.

Unfortunately, travelling by public transport is not possible, so the car remains the best option for this tour.

My insider tip in the Salzkammergut: the hike up the Signalkogel

Important to know: There is no mobile phone reception anywhere around the Langbath lakes. ⚠️ Therefore, download our Komoot tour beforehand and make it available offline - you will find the link at the end of the article.

We started our hike at the car park and walked down the first section along the road to the entrance at Jagerbachl. This meant we could avoid having to walk this stretch of road at the end of the tour. (Note: The Komoot tour starts at the Jagerbachl in any case).

The first section took us along a forest road until we reached the front Signalkogel on normal forest paths and small, steeper root paths. The way there is very well signposted and easy to find.

Once you reach the summit, you are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Vorderer Signalkogel. 🏞️

The transition to the rear Signalkogel and on to the rear Langbathsee is not signposted. Caution is required here to avoid taking a wrong turn - however, the route itself is quite easy to recognise.

The hike is tough, but absolutely doable. Overall, I would categorise it as a rather easy tour that impresses with a great combination of summit experience and nature.
