This great mountain hike in the Salzkammergut was definitely worth it. We hiked up the Vormauerstein with views of the Schafberg, Wolfgangsee and Attersee. 🤩
Shaggy and I packed our hiking gear in mid-February and made our way to Lake Wolfgangsee. Once we got there, we climbed a few metres up the hiking trail to the Vormauerstein, where - despite the clouds - a fantastic view awaited us. 🏞️

Directions and parking options for the Vormauerstein hike on Lake Wolfgangsee
I travelled via Gmunden and Bad Ischl in the direction of Wolfgangsee. Once there, our satnav took me directly to the car park at the snack station (see Komoot tour at the bottom - you can navigate directly to the starting point via Komoot).
The parking fees here are to be paid using organic online parking machines (very funny idea 😄) and amount to €2 per car per day.
In principle, it is also possible to travel to St. Wolfgang by public transport - but the start is probably near the Schwarzenbach sports ground and then joins my hiking trail later.

Information about the hike to the Vormauerstein
The hike was really one of the most beautiful hikes so far. It went continuously through a beautiful forest path to the top of the Vormauerstein. Unfortunately - and this is a great pity - the hiking trail leads through a mountain pasture with grazing cattle. So this is only recommended with a dog outside the summer months when there are no grazing cattle on the mountain pasture. About half of the route passes through this area. 🐄
A little caution is also required at the summit: It's a bit of a scramble at the front and too dangerous in winter. However, you can go round the rock a little and walk up a much easier path from behind - so no climbing necessary. ⛰️

Refreshment stops during the hike to the Vormauerstein
Although you pass by many huts, I was unfortunately unable to find out whether any of the surrounding refreshment stops also offer plant-based dishes. 🌱 That's why I won't make a specific recommendation here. It's best to bring a good snack and a nice coffee in a thermos flask - then you're definitely on the safe side. 🥪☕️
