The hike up the Gmundnerberg is a short but really beautiful mountain tour. It is perfect for a family outing with the children, a walk with the dog or simply for a leisurely Sunday outing on your own.

The hike up the Gmundnerberg is one of my favourite excursions when it needs to be a little shorter. It was a great family experience for us in 2024. Of course, Emma was there too, as always, and my nephew also got to climb his first mountain. Yes, we even had the pram with us - so that's definitely possible.

Directions and parking facilities

By car

The easiest route is via the A1 motorway to the Regau exit. At the roundabout, take the second exit in the direction of Gmunden. Follow this road for about 4 kilometres and turn left just before the Esthofer car dealership. Continue to the right for about 1 kilometre, where you arrive at Eurospar and turn right again. Stay on this road for about 500 metres and then turn left. Here you will find the first car park right at the side of the road where you can stop. Alternatively, you can continue on a somewhat narrower road up the Pinsdorfberg for about one kilometre. There is a small indentation on the left-hand side of the road where you can park your car.

By public transport

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything for this. If any of you have found something for travelling by public transport, please let us know and we will add it.

Parking facilities

Right next to the road is a parking bay for around 8-10 cars. If you would like to add just under a kilometre to this tour, you can also park further down the road - there are also a few parking spaces here. Regardless of where you park your car, you should start this tour as early as possible.

Route description and key data for the hike up the Gmundnerberg

From the car park, you start on a tarmac path that takes you uphill for about half a kilometre until it turns into a forest path. Follow this for another 500 metres. Once you have mastered the steepest section, you will reach a forest road. Now continue slightly uphill on this gravelled path. Here you will pass chickens and fenced-in cows, which is always exciting for children. Once you have also mastered this section, you will reach a tarmac road again. After another 500 metres and a small final ascent, you have reached your destination. A fantastic view of Lake Traunsee and a great place to stop for refreshments in the Mountain inn Urzn are now waiting for you
