This challenging Traunsee hike takes you over the Kleiner Schönberg and back via the impressive Miesweg. You can follow my Komoot tour at the end. ✌🏼
In June, Shaggy and I headed up the Schönberg, right by the Traunsee. The mountain is actually a bit challenging, but the view is definitely worth it. 🤩 The crowning glory is the way back via the Miesweg - it was also a great opportunity for Shaggy to cool off in the Traunsee. The hike is suitable for fit children and also for dogs that already have mountain or alpine experience. I wouldn't personally tackle the tour with a pug. 😅
You can find my short Instagram reel about the hike up the Schönberg here:
The hike up the Kleiner Schönberg and back via the Miesweg
I would categorise the tour - although I really enjoyed it - as rather demanding. It was indeed very strenuous (also because of the heat). 🥵 Children and dogs definitely need to be fit and you should also have a certain basic level of stamina. As a mountain for beginners, I would advise against it - There are some great options, such as the hike to Laudachsee or Grünberg.

Directions and car park for the Miesweg and small Schönberg
As I was travelling with Shaggy again, it's easier for me to arrive directly by car with the dog crate. If you also want to arrive by car, then make sure you arrive early - the car park is very limited as this is a popular excursion destination (thanks to Miesweg). The start of the hike up the Traunstein also begins here.
You can also arrive by Traunseetaxi if you want to avoid the hassle of parking. The cost of the car park is also relatively high. 💸

Refreshment stops on the Kleiner Schönberg
Unfortunately, there are no refreshment stops on the small Schönberg. It's best to take your own snack with you and enjoy it either at the summit or at the bottom of the Miesweg. 🍎🥖
Swimming during the hike
Yes - at the end of the tour you have the opportunity to cool off and refresh yourself in Lake Traunsee. The Miesweg trail is located directly on the lakeshore, making the hike up the Kleiner Schönberg twice as worthwhile! 🌊🐶
