ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con in Wels

We were there. The first time travelling for the blog at the ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con in Wels. I'll tell you what it was like and what we were offered in this post.

The Austria Comic Con in Wels is a must-attend event for me every year. This year was particularly special - it was the first time we were there for muatsdrawig.at. What was different about it? We took photos, filmed and chatted to all kinds of people. What hasn't changed - great exhibitors, a wide variety of events, insanely good cosplays and much more.

The journey

As in previous years, the Austria Comic Con will take place at the Wels Exhibition Centre in 2023.

Car

Coming from Salzburg, take the A1 motorway. At the Sattledt exit, join the A8 motorway in the direction of Passau/Germany. Follow the A8 to the Wels-West exit and take the B1 towards the centre of Wels. From here, take Salzburger Straße, Maria-Theresia Straße and Rosenauaer Straße to the exhibition centre.

From the direction of Vienna/Linz, take the A1 motorway to the Haid junction. Then follow the A25 motorway in the direction of Deutschland/Wels/Passau. Take the exit Wels - Ost Zentrum, from here take the B1 back to the exhibition centre.

Public transport

Very easy to reach. Take the train to the first stop, Wels main station. Here you have to change trains once in the direction of Grünau im Almtal - past the „Wels Lokalbahn“ station and you can get off at „Wels Messe“. Now you are actually directly at the exhibition centre and only have to walk 1 - 2 minutes to reach your destination.

Stars and Co.

At the ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con in Wels, you can experience your favourite stars up close. But that's not all, a wide variety of artists and cosplay guests will also be on site for you. 

Actor

Let's start with my favourite of the day, Mark Sheppard, known among other things as Crowley from the US series Supernatural. For me personally, it was a little highlight to have seen him live. Of course you could take a photo with everyone or get an autograph. Of course, a convention is not complete without hot news, so you could go to the panels to make sure you didn't miss anything. Unfortunately, everything has its price, which our favourites have paid - here is a brief summary.

Draftsman

Tanya Roberts - She is a comic artist and illustrator, but also works in the games and animation industry. She has worked on Disney's Toy Story comics and the Star Wars Rebels video game, for example.

Dave Lung - He is best known for his work on Batman, Silver Surfer and the Dark Reign saga. Dave is a multi-talented artist who divides his time between inking and cover art.

Artist Alley

Such a great selection of fantastic artists. If I were to list them all here now, the article would only consist of names. But I don't want to withhold two really talented and great artists from you. We were able to have a quick chat with them. Not only do they conjure up real works of art - no, they are also damn likeable. We are talking about Chaotic Arts and Mandy Frank - Watercolour Artist. But why don't you see for yourself and have a look at the two of them?. 

Highlights at the ACC

It's hard to say that these were the highlights of ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con, because for me the whole convention is a highlight. There really is so much on offer. The ACC Masters of eSports, Europe's biggest Comic Con eSports tournament, a Pinball Expo and lots of small competitions - such as an anime quiz, a Super Smash Battle or even a pasta slurping competition were on the daily programme.

The ACC Masters of eSports

They are already a fixture on the European gaming scene. Every kind of gamer finds their place here! This year there was a Mario Kart tournament where you could register directly on site. Of course I missed this information. I certainly wouldn't have missed it otherwise. Because I still believe to this day that I fucking rock Mario Kart - I would have won the thing.🤣

Austria Comic Con Pinball Expo

Europe's largest Comic Con Pinball Expo - 500 m², 50 pinball machines and 15 arcades from the 80s to the present day. These gems are presented by RS pinball and the FlippArena from Vöcklabruck. Anyone who loves pinball should visit the ACC next time for this reason alone. I'm not the biggest pinball fan, but even my heart sinks at the sight of this.

Of course, I don't just want to give you information about ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con. You should definitely also know about other events and cons. So that you don't miss anything and can look forward to the next event with us. 

The Royalcon in the Stadthalle Enns on 20 & 21 April 2024 - takes place for the first time!

The Lego exhibition - 2nd Mini Meeting 2nd & 3rd Sept. 2023 from 10:00 - 17:00 in Zell/Pettenfirst, Gasthaus Leitner

Culinary delights - Foodtrucks

One thing we mustn't forget is what we had for dinner. My humble self indulged in Langmair - Mrs Knolle, really tasty potato spirals. There are 2 treats that always work for me. One is potato spirals and the other is langos with garlic or sour cream and cheese. My mouth is watering just writing this.

Jasmin and Eli had something in the morning that we don't get anywhere near here so quickly. At Naruto Asia Streetfood but Eli was able to enjoy some really good ramen. In the afternoon, the second course, I was a little envious as I wasn't very hungry that day and as Eli and Jasmin have just as good a taste as I do, I had one of Viktor Szabo's many lango variations.

Whether with meat or for the veggies among us, a small snack for in between or something sweet, the choice at the ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con was huge. There was something for everyone - I'll quickly list everything else.

My summary of the ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con in Wels

What else is there to say about it? If you're a little nerd like me, a fan of comics or simply love cosplay, then you've come to the right place. Whether Star Wars, Marvel or Lord of the Rings - you'll find everything you're looking for at this convention. There are only nice and friendly people here, no rivalries and everyone can come as they please. Want to play something - you can do that. New merchandise or comics - you'll find it here. You want to be up close to your favourite stars - where else but at the ACC 2023 - Austria Comic Con in Wels. I just think it's so great there because you can just let your inner nerd out without anyone looking at you the wrong way. You get to see incredibly good artists, whether they're professionals drawing or doing awesome cosplay. No matter how many times I visit the convention, it will always fascinate me.
