We took part in the mjam Linzathlon 2022 - an obstacle run of superlatives. Okay, admittedly - there were no blood and tears, but there was a lot of sweat and fun. The Beat The City event at a glance.
10.34 km & 137 metres in altitude (according to Apple Watch ⌚️) + 25 mega-genius obstacles. This is what characterised this year's Linzathlon on 21.05.22 and my mate (Mühli alias wishpics) & I ventured over this Obstaclerun.
Why the hell would you do that? Admittedly - it was a coincidence. With Life Radio tickets were raffled off for a so-called „Linzathlon“ that we hadn't heard of before. As we had already taken part in Wings for Life we thought nothing could stop us. Hahaha. Of course. 🤦♂️
As luck would have it, we won 2 tickets 🥳 for an event that we didn't know about and had completely underestimated up to that point.
I don't want to spoil anything yet, aaaaabut - it was MEGA AWESOME SUPER COOL! It was so great that we also took part in the Innsbruckathlon the following month.
What is this mjam Linzathlon by Beat The City?
With the Beat The City Apply are obstacle courses in the city centres of Linz, Innsbruck and Graz. The courses are all just over 10 kilometres long and include 20+ natural and artificial obstacles. The cities are closed to traffic and guarded and controlled by countless security personnel and police officers. Top performance and great work entire staff here!
In addition to children's competitions, there are main races for adults in various categories and starting blocks. From professional athletes to groups who just want to „get through somehow“, everyone is represented. We are somewhere in the second half of this scale. 😂 Our group name was „Dirty Dans“, which suits us perfectly. 🤪 We reached Place 572 & 581 - We crossed the finish line in under 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Physical fitness is not a problem, as there are very helpful athletes running alongside you throughout the course, who also support all the other runners in overcoming the obstacles. (Caution: However, you shouldn't have a problem running 12 kilometres in one go - it's a considerable extra effort to run and overcome obstacles, so don't underestimate that! So you should already have a certain level of fitness).
Hardcore but awesome! 1400 participants and thousands of spectators made the day unforgettable.

The obstacles at Beat The City in Linz
There was a town to conquer and I can guarantee you one thing: This city was tougher than you think on this day!
The obstacles at the mjam Linzathlon 2022 were perfectly thought out and safely set up - you had a lot of fun tackling them and never felt unsafe.
Now to the obstacle list:
-
Linz AG Zone
- Honestly... the worst obstacle ever - getting completely wet right at the start and, on top of everything else, sand in your shoes - YEAH .... but after that the inhibition threshold was overcome and you didn't care about anything else. 😆
-
Unibox bear treat
- A great climbing obstacle. Climb up 🧗♂️Netz and back down again - a great warm-up in my opinion.
-
Unibox pay-back slide
- A really brilliant water slide for adults. 🛝 Mühli's (my buddy mentioned above) favourite photo was taken after this slide. 📸 (he imagines he looked particularly muscular in his skinny jersey)
-
Wave
- Down a net slope - how? I have no idea. Forwards or backwards - as you like. 🤷♀️
-
Logwin - The Right Choice
- A small labyrinth, which costs a little time if you make the wrong decision (but don't worry - not much time). Just turn twice and you're good to go.
-
Path through the water
- Yes, you read that right - you had to run in the Danube. My second favourite obstacle after the Linz AG Zone. 🌊 You can tell that water is not my favourite element. And that as an Aquarius. 🧜🏼♂️ Strange.
-
Ohrner - Rock the Wall
- A great climbing wall - not long, not difficult, not tragic - just great.
-
BMW Höglinger Denzel Adrenalin Mountain
- A long advertising name for an obstacle, but again a climbing wall at the start, then running along a net over a BMW and sliding down the other side. One small point of criticism here: The climbing wall on the left side was used so much that it protruded a bit and was no longer 100% solid - just use the other 2, then it fits again and there were No 🤕 injured persons.
-
Stollen
- Mega cool run through the tunnel in Linz - after heating up the body, the cool run in the tunnel was really important and brilliant. Pioneering LEDs didn't leave you alone in the tunnel.
-
Gigasport Step by Step
- So the steps ... oh ... if you thought that was the worst obstacle at the time, you were in for a real surprise later on. I was one of the surprised ones. ⛰
-
Print & Wear Double Trouble
- Pull up a sloping wall twice with a rope and climb down the other side. Simple, but I personally really liked it.
-
Wooden hurdles
- Small wooden rungs to climb over - simple - plain - fun. 🪜
-
Worqout Water Challenge
- If you like watching Ninja Warrior, the obstacle made you feel like a real warrior on TV. Left, right, left, right - just not into the water! 🥷
-
LT1 Invert
- So this is where you start to put your muscle power to the test. The first real obstacle where you have to pull yourself up - I think. 💪 Something for the muscular athletes.
-
Mjam Pipe
- The obstacle I was most looking forward to. The Wall. The wall. Ingenious. It was no coincidence that most of the spectators stood here and cheered enthusiastically for all the athletes as they conquered the pipe. 🙌 (or commiserated with those who failed with an „oooooohhhwww“)
-
Islands
- This obstacle reminded me a bit of Takeshi's Castle ... except that you didn't get pelted with medicine balls when you jumped onto the islands, as would probably have been the case at Takeshi's Castle.
-
Yellow wave over balls
- A BALL BATH 😍 Finally as an adult in a ball bath - thanks to Life Radio!
-
Cope With The Wall
- Another cool climbing wall.
-
Mission Magna
- So this part was really high. Really high. But awesome!
-
Spusu Power Ropes
- Easy. I thought. Easy. This obstacle was really tough - it looked much easier than it was. I had to do this obstacle twice, because the first time I had lost my strength in the middle and I was allowed to bathe again.
-
Wall 4 Panier #glaubandich
- I am still a customer of Sparkasse Oberösterreich - funnily enough. During this obstacle, however, I briefly lost faith in myself and briefly considered closing my account with this bank. In the meantime, as I was told afterwards, I was hanging on a wall like a wet flannel because I really had no strength left to go on. But - I DID IT! 🥹🥹
-
Crown Burpee Boulevard
- Anyone who thought they could relax here was disappointed - the action continued!
-
Waterwalk Challenge
- This obstacle was a brief relief at the end. Simply walking over a net in the water - that was easy and anything was better than using your arms.
-
Under Armour Bagjump
- Okay - if you're not a scaredy-cat like me, then it's a really cool obstacle. For me, the 4 metres were just too high and I only jumped when I saw that Mühli jumped without hesitation despite his fear of heights. And if he can do it, so can I! 🤪
-
Bilfinger's Hangel scramble
- Unfortunately, this obstacle was the last straw for me. I managed to complete all the obstacles on my own - but not this one. I had no strength left and wasn't prepared for something like this. Long story short: wrong technique + no strength = going for a swim. Too bad. But I had a goal for the Innsbruckathlon. Did I make it there? - Maybe I did. I'll tell you about that another time. 😁

Conclusion on the Beat The City application
So to summarise this brilliant event: I've tasted blood. It was so much fun and a really great day that I took part in the Innsbruckathlon straight away and we have already bought tickets for the entire 2023 series. Linzathlon, Grazathlon and Innsbruckathlon.
If you want to train (a little strength, pulling and hanging technique won't hurt either) you can find here Tips for running in the morning (running on an empty stomach) and below you will find our Komoot tour of the Linzathlon 2022.
