The Beat The City series continued and the next stop was a trip to the GRAWE Grazathlon 2023.
Last year Linzathlon 2022 and Innsbruckathlon 2022, this year naturally had to be a step up. And as „little Monks“ and „ambition seekers“, it was only natural to run the Beat The City races as a complete series this year - not just to mark the 10th anniversary of the Grazathlon. So after the Obstacle course in Linz now the Grazathlon 2023 in the (Beat The City) series.
As Graz is quite a distance away from us, we combined the running event with a short weekend trip with Hotel stay – really good food and the somewhat different Sightseeing tour in Graz ;).
🔴🔴🟢 On your marks, get set, go: the journey to Graz
We weren't travelling quite as fast as the two of them through the obstacle course on the train to Graz, but we still wanted to test out the journey.
Admittedly, the journey takes by train to the Styrian capital is much longer than, for example, to the city centre. by car. Nevertheless, travelling by train is much more relaxed for us, as we don't have to worry about staying focused or finding parking at our destination. As our hotel was right next to Graz Central Station, it was the easiest and most uncomplicated solution.
Off to Graz 🚂...
Of course you can also travel to Graz by car (you may have to factor in the toll fee!) or by plane. You can find more detailed information about travelling to and parking in Graz on the Graz tourism page.
„1st Labstation“: Design Hotel Daniel Graz
As already mentioned, the hotel is located Daniel Graz right next to the main railway station. So it was only 150 metres from the main station We had to walk until we were welcomed at reception by the very friendly hotel staff and were able to check in straight away.
Style & ambience
Urban, smart, luxurious - This is how the Design Hotel Daniel in Graz presents itself, from the reception to the various room categories. The rooms from 79,- € are invitingly designed, and thanks to the small space available open & smart interior design a cosy feeling. Bear in mind that an open-plan layout may mean a little less „privacy“. So if you are not (yet) so close to your companion, we recommend booking individual rooms. 🚪🚪

„2nd Labstation“: venues for vegans in Graz
„I recently read “For all grain-fed people" on a menu, including Japanese soba buckwheat noodles (according to the innkeepers, of course). „wegan or whatever it's called, so none of the cattle inside“).

The fact that vegan dishes are no longer just for people on a purely vegan diet and don't always have to be completely exotic is proven, for example, by the 100 % vegan burger chain „Swing Kitchen“. They can now be found in Vienna, Innsbruck, Munich, Berlin, Bern and also in Graz.
According to ⌚️ approx. 940 calories burnt and 180 metres in altitude the Grazathlon, the hunger was great.
So we took the opportunity to recharge our energy reserves with really tasty (vegan) burgers, nuggets, chips, really cool dips (basil lemon dip ❤️), a drinks flat rate and coffee with cake. We more than succeeded! 🫃

Vegan pizza in Graz
Also „Don Camillo“ at the various locations in Graz shows that you don't have to be a purely vegan restaurant to be able to offer good pizzas with vegan cheese, alongside other delicious pizzas, pasta, salads and more.
One salad was huge and would certainly have been enough as a side dish for two people. In the usual Italian style, you were allowed to dress it yourself 🥗.
Buon Appetito!
