Shaggy and I had actually only planned to go to the viewing platform to escape the fog here at home. Once at the top, we were rewarded with an absolutely marvellous view of the surrounding mountain landscape of Lake Attersee - all covered in a blanket of fog. There was no view of the lake, but it was just as magical! Once at the top, however, we missed a summit cross, which is why we decided to walk 25 minutes further to reach the summit cross of the Hochplettspitz.

Directions and parking options for the hike to the Hochplettspitz

To be honest, I recommend travelling here by car - but be sure to arrive early, as the parking spaces directly at the entrance are limited. Otherwise there are car parks directly in Unterach. You can find my Komoot tour at the end of the article - it starts directly from the nearest car park.

The hike to the Hochplettspitz via the viewing platform on the Hollerberg

Starting from the car park, we immediately headed uphill. After a few minutes, we reached the first highlight: the jubilee tree. After marvelling for a moment, we headed straight on into the forest, as we wanted to reach the top today.

The hike took us almost continuously through a beautiful forest. The path had something about it - despite the time of year, it was very green and invited us to enjoy it.

Once we reached the top, we took the same route back down again - so this time it wasn't a circular route, which isn't a problem for me anyway. If you don't want to go that far, you can of course skip the last ascent after visiting the viewing platform and go straight back down - this hike is also definitely worth it!

Refreshment stops during the hike on the Hochplettspitz

Unfortunately, there are no refreshment stops on the Hollerberg and Hochplettspitz. Better bring your own snack and enjoy it at the summit cross. Seating is available at the summit and at the viewing platform. PS: the vegan Landjäger from DM is my absolute favourite snack! Definitely pack it next time. (unpaid advertising)

We spontaneously visited the observation tower in Haag am Hausruck on 7 January 2023 and immediately took the opportunity to visit the Path of the senses angesehen. Der kleine Wanderweg eignet sich prima für jede Altersklasse und die kleinen unter uns können dazu noch einiges Erleben und die menschlichen Sinne einsetzen. Es gibt verschiedene Stationen für die Kids und die Eltern haben alle Hände voll zu tun, diese Erlebnisse zu fotografieren und mit den Kindern bergauf mithalten zu können. Hunde haben ebenfalls Freude am Wanderweg – jedoch für Kinderwägen ist der Weg der Sinne nicht geeignet (Wurzelwege, Stufen, usw.). Da kann man sich mit der Forststraße Abhilfe schaffen.

Directions and parking facilities 

This time we travelled by car so that we could take Shaggy with us. Travelling by bus to Haag im Hausruck is also possible. 

If you are travelling from further afield via the A8 motorway, you can exit directly at Haag am Hausruck and drive to the Luisenhöhe valley station.

Bei der Talstation gibt es mehrere Parkmöglichkeiten – einen Parkplatz zu finden dürfte, glaube ich, nicht allzu schwierig sein.

Start and access - details of the Trail of the Senses to the observation tower in Haag am Hausruck

We started the hike at the valley station at car park 1. From here, the trail is very well signposted and you follow the signs in the direction of the viewing platform or the trail of the senses until you reach the Haag viewing tower at the end. The trail is great fun, you cover a few metres in altitude, there are many stations for the children and a few root paths round off the whole thing nicely.

There are photo opportunities along the entire hiking trail. There is a refreshment stop at the high ropes park at the Waldschenke (after approx. 2/3 of the hiking trail).

Last stop: Haag am Hausruck observation tower

You've made it! Now you've reached the observation tower in Haag - and if you're not afraid of heights (like me), you'll be at the highest point in no time - namely the 32 metre high tower. 

Ich habe eine Weile gebraucht, da der Wind richtig stark war und der Turm leicht gewackelt hat – aber ich habe meine Höhenangst überwunden, damit ich euch in meiner Galerie unten ein paar tolle Fotos präsentieren kann. 

The climb was really worth it for me and the view was definitely worth the whole hike.

Conclusion on the hike along the path of the senses

Nachdem es ein spontaner Ausflug war und ich mich nicht wirklich erkundigt habe, habe ich den Wind an diesem Tag leider etwas unterschätzt. Ich war somit nicht warm genug gekleidet und mir wurde relativ schnell kalt, aber da bin ich eindeutig selbst schuld. Ich weiß nicht, ob es generell windiger ist, oder es nur an diesem Tag so war, aber eines ist fix: nächstes Mal rüste ich mich besser aus.

It's a short, beautiful and varied hike, which I definitely recommend at this point. Grab the kids, your dog and the grandparents and go on a great family outing together up to the viewing tower in Haag am Hausruck. You'll find pictures to get a taste for it below.
