At the ARS Electronica Centre, you can enjoy around 3,000 m² exhibition space die verschiedenen Bereiche entweder auf eigene Faust und in eigenem Tempo erforschen oder im Zuge einer 1 stündigen-Führung die Highlights entdecken :

• In the ARS Electronica Labs will deal with issues of the future in a wide variety of areas, including the complementary use of artificial intelligence. Current areas: Biology, Materials research, Commitment to society and the environment, Bodyhacking & prosthetics
• The exhibition „Understanding Artificial Intelligence„ of the ARS Electronica Centre deals with the potential but also with the handling of artificial intelligence and digital worlds.

Interactive exhibition stations awaken the joy of experimentation in young and old alike

Many stations and projects in the exhibition invite you to look, try out, join in and discover. We changed our faces, created works of art and composed music with the help of artificial intelligence. We trained systems and felt the strength of previous earthquakes on our own bodies. Our spirit of research and our love of experimentation was awakened and so we not only tried to train the systems but also - we admit it - to trick them and thus minimise the possibilities as well as the limits of current technologies, auszuloten. Gleichzeitig regt die Ausstellung dazu an, sich mit dem Gedanken auseinander zu setzten, wie wir Technologien in Zukunft nutzen möchten und wie wir mit diesen künftig umgehen.

As with so many school classes, we were looking forward to the show in Deep Space 8K. We also went to the ARS Electronica Museum once from school and took a trip from there with the help of Deep Space. impressive excursion through the universe. During our visit in summer we caught the Deep Space Family Edition. A presenter guided the audience through the varied programme, which is especially interesting for children and families. Interactive mini-games and visually stunning media artworks bereiteten großen Spaß und ließen bei Klein und Groß die Augen leuchten.

Culinary delights with a view of the Danube for museum visitors

After quenching our thirst for knowledge and exploring every corner of the ARS Electronica Centre, we quenched our „real“ thirst in the Panorama restaurant „Cubus“. Außerdem genossen wir nach unserem Museumsbesuch noch einen Kaffee with View of the Danube. Also the Roof terrace of the building offers visitors to Linz a fantastic all-round view of Upper Austria's capital city. 

The AEC is an excursion destination for people of all ages and in all weathers!

Da es uns im Sommer – besonders über die Mittagszeit – draußen viel zu heiß ist , besuchten wir die Ausstellung des ARS Electronica Centres in Linz, Upper Austria. Like most museums and exhibitions, this one is also independent of weather conditions and very Well tempered. So a „museum visit“ is THE Activity for any weather - especially on hot days, in the rain or also as a bad weather programme it's a good place to do something anyway.

From a short visit for tourists to a family day trip

The ARS Electronica in Linz presents the themes of the future in a wide variety of formats. As we find the public transport connections to Linz very uncomplicated, we normally use the train to get there. However, we had breakfast a little out of town, so we used the car that day.

Die Anreise zum VR Escape war für uns Abenteurer relativ entspannt – denn wir nutzten unsere Klima- & Freizeittickets um von Schwanenstadt zum Dschungel zu gelangen. Eingestiegen in den REX nach Linz, kurzer Snack beim Indigo in der Promenadengalerie – um gestärkt die spannenden Herausforderungen zu meistern – dann weiter zum Escape Room 2.0. Vom Hauptbahnhof gelangt man ganz leicht mit der Straßenbahn 3 oder 4 bis zur Station „Biegung“. Danach sind es nur noch circa 6 Gehminuten bis zum Erlebnis.

Schwierigkeit:

In contrast to classic escape puzzles, we grade the puzzles we play. VR Escape Room - Jungle Quest - as light in.

Auswahl:

The selectable adventures are very varied. You can choose from over 15 different and unique escape games - so there is something for absolutely everyone. The genres also range from family games to horror. Laser tag and dodgeball can also be played.

Fitness und körperliche Voraussetzung:

Basically, you don't have to be fit or athletic to do the VR Escape - but you should be able to stand for 60 minutes without any problems and move slowly. Caution is advised for people who get dizzy easily. Although the technology is sophisticated, you should still be free from vertigo.

Das bin ich – völlig versunken in einer anderen Welt und habe in diesem Moment auch vergessen, dass ich in der echten Welt einen Körper habe, der gerade von meinem Verstand entkoppelt ist.

VR Escape Linz - the experience for the whole family in the virtual world

An einem verregneten Freitagabend machten Jasmin, Michael und ich uns auf den Weg zum VR Escape Linz, gespannt auf das, was uns erwarten würde. Als wir dort ankamen, wurden wir von einem äußerst herzlichen Teammitglied empfangen, die uns das Gefühl gab, willkommen und gut aufgehoben zu sein.

During the fun and friendly briefing, Magdalena explained everything we needed to know to start our adventure in virtual reality. We were shown a defined area on the carpet where we could move and turn freely to explore our surroundings.

Schließlich war es an der Zeit, in die fesselnde Welt des VR Escape Linz einzutauchen. Wir setzten unsere VR-Brillen und Kopfhörer auf und fanden uns plötzlich in einer völlig neuen Realität wieder. Die Steuerung war einfach und intuitiv, sodass wir uns voll und ganz auf das Erlebnis konzentrieren konnten.

Once we arrived together in the Jungle - admittedly after initially familiarising ourselves with the surroundings and having fun - we mastered challenges and solved tricky puzzles while being completely immersed in the world of VR Escape Linz.

An absolutely fantastic experience for young and old!

So as not to spoil anything, we have decided not to reveal anything about the game we played. We have only included a few pictures to give you an insight into the world. One thing I can reveal so far: Once you're in the game - just play! You can't go wrong unless you co-operate and don't talk to each other - then it can get pretty difficult. 

Our experience and conclusion about the VR Escape in Linz

In fact, I was extremely fascinated by the advanced technology and the great realisation of the entire adventure. We deliberately opted for a simple adventure and were done with the puzzles in just under 30 minutes. As we were so quick, we were allowed to play a bonus game where we had to prevent monsters from passing through a passageway with a bow and arrow.

Das letzte Mal, also vor gefühlt 6-7 Jahren, als ich eine VR Brille aufhatte, wurde mir sofort übel und ich hatte Kopfschmerzen – das war hier definitiv nicht der Fall, was zu meiner absoluten Begeisterung beigetragen hatte!

We did it! We have successfully solved the escape puzzle.

Anfangs hatte ich vor, bei solchen Erlebnissen für dich eine Pro und Contra Liste zu erstellen. Tatsächlich fällt mir nichts ein, das negativ gewesen wäre – das Gesamtpaket war stimmig und das Abenteuer hat 2 Sachen bewirkt: 1. Meine Sicht auf VR hat sich ordentlich in’s Positive geändert und 2. sind wir schon am Überlegen was wir als nächstes für ein VR Escape in Linz spielen werden.

There was also a surprise: we saw each other in the game with our avatars. I also always had an eye on my friends' every move.

As already mentioned in the introduction, you need the app Actionbound. Diese kannst du ganz einfach über den App-Store bzw. Google Play Store laden.

If you have already decided on a Outdoor Escape Adventure on the website you can book it online and you will be sent a ticket code and instructions. You can then simply use this code to enter the Outdoor Escape using a smartphone.

Wir waren zu dritt und ein Smartphone war völlig ausreichend. Unserer Einschätzung nach ist es bestimmt mit bis zu 8 Personen mit einem einzigen Smartphone (bei Outdoor Escape Gmunden - ENTFÜHRT!) playable.

The cost of a ticket is € 39.90 (as of 06/03/2023). This price is per ticket and smartphone - regardless of how many players you have.

Wir stufen die Zielgruppe in diesem Fall sehr allgemein ein. Unabhängig von Alter und anderen Interessensfaktoren ist jeder, der Spaß am Rätseln hat, gut aufgehoben. Von Jung bis Alt, als Familienerlebnis oder lässige Freundeskreis-Aktivität – für alle ist etwas dabei.

Grundsätzlich benötigt man ein Smartphone mit GPS, funktionierenden Lautsprechern und Internetverbindung. Die Rätsel bzw. Video- & Soundclips werden online geladen und an manchen Stellen wird man mit einem Kompass in der App durch die Gegend geleitet.

In contrast to classic escape puzzles, we categorise this outdoor escape as a light in.

Fitness und körperliche Voraussetzung:

Da man vom Startpunkt bis zum Ziel und wieder Retour ca. 4 – 5 km zurücklegt, ist eine gewisse Mobilität Voraussetzung. Die zurückgelegte Strecke ist nicht anspruchsvoll und in 90 Minuten für die meisten machbar.

ESCAPE! - The Outdoor Escape in Gmunden: The interactive scavenger hunt for everyone

Wie es der Name schon erahnen lässt, wurde eine Person entführt und der Geiselnehmer möchte ein Spiel mit uns spielen. Nach dem Start des Outdoor Escape wird man noch (ohne Laufen der Zeit) an den Startpunkt am Rathausplatz in Gmunden geleitet und bestätigt erst dann offiziell den Start und der Timer läuft. Nun hat man 90 Minuten und 13 Rätseln lang Zeit, um die entführte Person zu retten.

And then the puzzle fun begins! So as not to give too much away, I won't go into detail about the puzzles - but you will come across some beautiful places where you can take wonderful photos if you have time. At the bottom of the gallery you will find Fotos von unserem Verlauf – ACHTUNG SPOILERGEFAHR!

Die Rätsel sind leicht gestaltet und sehr gut zu lösen. Besonders Spaß daran dürften Kinder haben und man sieht fast durchgehend den schönen Traunsee und kann sich auch dem Anblick der Berglandschaft im Hintergrund erfreuen. Man hat nie den Eindruck, dass man alleine gelassen wird und die Rätsel bringen dich gut zum nächsten Punkt. Wenn ihr nicht mehr weiterwisst, gibt es zudem die Möglichkeit, die Spielleiter via Whatsapp zur Hilfestellung zu kontaktieren. Ein riesen Pluspunkt an dieser Stelle für den Service – wir haben ihn nicht nutzen müssen, daher können wir ihn auch nicht bewerten.

Our experience and conclusion about the Outdoor Escape in Gmunden

Wir haben das Outdoor Escape in Gmunden am 05.03.2023 gespielt. Das Wetter war bewölkt, bei 4°C, jedoch war man immer in Bewegung und so wurde einem nicht kalt. Im Sommer hat man da natürlich noch weitere Möglichkeiten wie zum Beispiel Rätsellösen mit einer Eistüte in der einen Hand und das Smartphone in der anderen. Unabhängig vom Wetter ist das Spielen zu jeder Tageszeit und bei jedem Wetter spielbar. Es gibt keine Stellen, die verschlossen sein könnten oder nicht passierbar wären – somit ist dies sehr wohl durchdacht, damit man es tatsächlich komplett unabhängig von Umweltfaktoren bespielen kann.

There were three of us and we managed to solve the puzzle and reach the end of the treasure hunt in around an hour.

If you want to experience a different kind of family outing or spontaneously solve puzzles in a beautiful setting, then take a look at the various outdoor escape games and maybe you'll find the right one for you!

Contra

Mein größter Kritikpunkt ist tatsächlich der Preis. Unabhängig vom Spaßfaktor und vom Rätselerlebnis ist der Preis von € 39,90 sehr hoch angesetzt. Die Schnitzeljagd ist in einer App, in welcher man kostenlos solche Challenges anlegen und auch spielen kann. Somit ist dies keine hauseigene App und man nutzt die Möglichkeiten eines Drittanbieters. Selbstverständlich steckt hier Arbeit und Zeit dahinter, welche auch dementsprechend zu entlohnen ist und auch muss man hervorheben, dass der Preis unabhängig von der Spieleranzahl ist.

The quality of the video clips and the soundtracks were not outstanding and not coherent. Unfortunately, the person to be rescued looked different in each video clip and I would have liked the sound quality of the various recordings to be a little more professional.

It was a great scavenger hunt and definitely a great way to pass the time. Compared to other activities and experiences, we would consider a price range of €10 to €12 to be reasonable.
